Phil – Vet
Phil graduated from Massey in the last millennium and has been practising in South and Mid-Canterbury for the last 13 years. In between he has worked in the Rangitikei and locumed throughout the U.K. While working to contain the FMD outbreak in Yorkshire he met his wife Robyn and a foot and mouth romance began.
In his spare time he likes to try and hit a stationary white ball, chases sheep and cattle around their farm and tries to keep up with three fast moving children and their sporting endeavours!
Robyn – Vet
Robyn is a compassionate veterinarian of 16 years experience and enjoys the busyness of a diverse mixed practice. Robyn has a keen interest in small animal orthopaedics, soft tissue surgery and critical care cases.
Outside work hours, Robyn can be seen supporting 3 energetic children on the sports field, tramping in the beautiful outdoors or digging in her garden. Robyn is actively involved in the farming business that her and her husband own and is happy to be on the quad with their beautiful huntaway.
Thurza – Vet
Thurza grew up in Ashburton and graduated at Massey University in 2015. She started working at Gateway after visiting as a student in her final year. Thurza enjoyed dairy farming as a gap year after school which further fuelled her interest in working with animals and the farming community.
She really loves her music, getting outdoors and playing Netball with the Geraldine club.
Amy – Vet
Amy qualified in the UK in 2012 and spent her first four years as a farm vet in the South West. She has been working in New Zealand for the past 18 months and spent the last calving season in the Ashburton area before joining the Gateway team. In her spare time she enjoys tramping and can often be found exploring somewhere in the Southern Alps.
Nina – Vet
Nina has spent her years since University working as a vet in Ranfurly and gallivanting overseas. She works part time here at Gateway Vets and fills the rest of the week in near Mount Somers, where she leases her family sheep and beef farm with her sister. In her spare time she loves exploring the hills, dog training and mountain biking.
Chantée – Vet
Chantée is originally from the North Island in the Hokianga. She grew up on her family’s finishing farm and has a passion for all things outdoors, heading into the mountains with her four legged friend when she can. We first met Chantée when she came to the clinic on placement, then came to Gateway as a full time vet once she graduated from Massey University. She is a big hearted vet who loves getting out on farm with our clients and their livestock.
Jennifer – Vet
Jennifer grew up in Scotland and graduated vet school at the University of Edinburgh. She came to New Zealand a whole week later to escape the Scottish weather. She has worked all over the South Island calf rearing, tailing and as a vet in Central and South Otago, coming to us in January 2020. Outside of work you can find Jen lost halfway up a hill or chasing after her foxy pup Pickle.
Lynette – Support Team
Lynette worked in the same Ashburton vet clinic as Phil about 10 years ago (back when they both looked that bit younger and fresher!) Since then she spent 7 years working as Office Manager for a small rural school at Carew before taking up the role of Clinic Manager at Gateway Vets.
Lynette is also a published writer of three children’s books and is currently working on a movie script (or procrastinating about working on it). In actuality, she spends most of her spare time out tramping in the hills.
Sue – Support Team
Sue is our administration person who deals with the accounts and payroll. Sue loves horses, she has competed in equestrian events for most of her life, and now has a retired dressage horse and a younger one to ride. She was head instructor at Temuka Pony club and assistant head instructor of Geraldine Pony Club for many years. She enjoys teaching people to ride. She has 2 naughty dogs, a terrier and a springer spaniel, all of which keeps her pretty busy when she is not at the clinic.
Anna – Support Team
Anna is our bubbly wee shorty who started her venture with us on the debud team a few seasons ago. Anna can be found racing around in the old prado delivering goods to our farmers or in clinic doing admin. She can also be found heading out on the teatseal trailer, debudding, taking bloods on farm or assisting our vets. Anna is a great people person who has a big love for all animals. She has three beautiful dogs, one in every size, looking after them being her full time job out of work. Anna’s home town is Wanaka but she loves living here in the heart of Geraldine.
